 Imagine painters unable to invite people over & art dealers unwilling to sell a painting because the artist’s studio had visitors!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking for Open Studio? All early drafts of poems & comments about them have been archived & deleted from this blog (see “About Open Studio” below). I’m sparing only select nonfiction archives which date back to 2008.
Thanks for visiting!
ABOUT OPEN STUDIO: When you visit artists in their studios, you have the opportunity to see what’s up—literally, what’s on the wall, what they’re working on. I love watching early work grow into itself. As a writer, most of my early drafts used to remain under wraps until the millionth revision and then I might submit some for publication, or not (more likely). Such practice isolates the creative process.
In January 2008, I started an online cross-genre journal as an experiment, hoping to explore what it’s like to make work with the studio door open and friends and artists visit from time to time. It made a huge difference in my experience of making work and I often posted raw first drafts next to a piece still developing after a decade.
However, the “walls” of Open Studio are almost empty now. I archived then deleted all early drafts of poems and comments from the past three years because things are changing and informal workspace such as this is more and more frequently considered a form of publication–which could prevent a poem from finding a home.
Imagine painters unable to invite people over & art dealers unwilling to sell a painting because the artist’s studio had visitors!
Currently, I’ve completed a first book of poetry titled Hidden Drive and have begun seeking a publisher. Meanwhile, I’m working on several other projects including essays, new poems and several blogs.
